Congress at UAlg marks start of SEA-EU's internationalisation strategy
To achieve this goal, a Global Gateway Declaration will be signed by the representatives of the SEA-EU Alliance universities, as well as their strategic partners, both academic and non-academic. This declaration translates into a joint commitment to tackle global challenges that contribute to sustainability, such as migration, gender balance and open science, while focusing on climate neutrality, the transition to clean energy, sustainable industry, agriculture and mobility. Furthermore, as a result of the SEA-EU Congress, external partners will be better prepared to prioritise the protection of biodiversity, especially marine biodiversity, the potential of the sea economy for sustainable food production and the well-being of citizens in coastal areas.
This event will detail the conclusions of SEA-EU 1.0 and reveal the plans for SEA-EU-2.0. The results of the Future Leaders Forum, which took place in Naples in October 2023, will also be highlighted, with a particular focus on the perspective of Generation Z.
This initiative with an international impact will bring together rectors, vice-rectors and the main representatives of the other Alliance universities and their partner universities, as well as associated external partners from Europe and various parts of the world.
The closing session, scheduled for 6.30pm, will be chaired by the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato.
To celebrate the European University of the Seas, at 8.30pm in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Grand Auditorium, the Orchestral Concert of the Seas by the Orquestra do Algarve will take place. Taking the tone of Debussy's work that opens this programme, "En Bateau", in Portuguese "On a boat", this concert takes the Orchestra through the gentle, sweet waves of the ocean, inspired by a breeze that fills its sails. The motto is set for a concert full of beauty that brings conductor Pablo Urbina to the Algarve for a return to the Orquestra do Algarve, where he has already proved his artistic worth. This concert, which is free but subject to capacity, transcends the traditional musical experience, becoming a celebration of the synergy between art, science and natural beauty, uniting the academic environment with the magic of classical music.
