SEA-EU 5th Anniversary at the University of Algarve

The University of Algarve proudly joined the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) Alliance in celebrating its 5th anniversary on February 21, 2025. The event, hosted at Gambelas Campus, brought together students and SEA-EU representatives in a day filled with interesting and meaningful initiatives.

The University of Algarve proudly joined the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) Alliance in celebrating its 5th anniversary on February 21, 2025. The event, hosted at Gambelas Campus, brought together students and SEA-EU representatives in a day filled with interesting and meaningful initiatives.

The event kicked off at 10:30 AM with a virtual gathering of representatives from the nine SEA-EU universities. Pro-rector of UAlg for SEA-EU, Professor Dr. Patricia Pinto represented the UAlg, focusing on the UAlg commitment to international collaboration and excellence within the SEA-EU Alliance.

At 10:45 AM, the exhibition "The World at UAlg" was officially opened at the Gambelas Library atrium. This exhibition featured artworks representing three new SEA-EU cities (Faro, Naples, and Bodo). The Vice-Rector, Professor Dr. Alexandra Teodósio delivered a welcome speech, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange within the Alliance.

In line with SEA-EU’s sustainability goals, the event hosted the "Second Life" initiative at 11:00 AM, promoting the reuse of second-hand items to reduce waste and encourage mindful consumption. Professors Dr. Margarida Ribau Teixeira and Dr. Vânia Sousa highlighted the importance of sustainability in academia and beyond. The initiative remained open until 4:30 PM, attracting both students and staff.

At 1:45 PM, the focus shifted to academic growth, with a session titled "SEA-EU: Opportunities for PhD Students”. Held at the Teresa Gamito Auditorium, the session also featured the presentation of the 3rd UAlg Doctoral Students Meeting. Professor Dr. Patrícia Pinto once again addressed the attendees, highlighting new research and mobility opportunities within SEA-EU.

Finally, participants gathered at 4:30 PM in the Rectorate Building to celebrate SEA-EU’s milestone with the cutting of the anniversary cake, a moment that symbolized the Alliance’s shared achievements and collective vision for the future. Marking the occasion, Professor Dr. Paulo Águas, Rector of UAlg, delivered a heartfelt welcome speech, emphasizing the importance of continued growth within the SEA-EU community.

To end the event on a festive note, a special performance by the Academic Tuna was scheduled at 5:30 PM in the same venue, adding a touch of tradition and culture to the celebration.
