Announcement to the Academic Community,

 

The University of Algarve has been following all the guidelines and decisions of the national public health authorities regarding measures to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19.

To date, UAlg has no knowledge of any confirmed or suspected cases within the academic community.

However, in view of the worsening of the evolution of the pandemic, and to safeguard the health and safety of the academic community, we deem it necessary to take some exceptional and additional measures to the UAlg Contingency Plan for COVID -19.

In particular:

  • The suspension of all classroom activities at the University of Algarve, with effect from March 12, 2020 *;
  • The implementation, as a matter of urgency and whenever possible, of distance learning by the Faculties and Schools;
  • The suspension of all events, sports and cultural activities at the UAlg facilities, until further notice;
  • The suspension of all work-related travel, until otherwise decided;
  • The suspension of all previously authorized travel;
  • The suspension of meetings of jury panels in person, until further notice;
  • The continuation of the functioning of the student residences and canteens of the Social Action Services of the University of Algarve, for the UAlg academic community only, in order to guarantee support to those students who are unable to return to their homes.

In accordance with the guidelines of the Contingency Plan for the University of the Algarve, the Emergency Centre of the University of the Algarve (CEUAlg) was heard on this matter.

UAlg will continue to strictly comply with the decisions and recommendations of the health authorities; therefore these measures may be adjusted or complemented by others, as the circumstances may require.

The University of Algarve appeals to all members of the academic community to follow these recommendations calmly and without alarmism, as well as those issued by public health authorities.

We count on everyone to overcome this particularly delicate moment.
