The Rector took note of a complaint regarding a stall run by a committee of final-year students during the Academic Week, organised by the Academic Association of the University of Algarve (AAUAlg), currently taking place in Faro from 1 to 10 May. The complaint stated that the stall displayed messages of encouragement that appeared to promote sexist behaviour, which is incompatible with the humanist, egalitarian, and democratic values upheld by the University of Algarve.

In response, the Rector immediately requested the President of the General Directorate of the AAUAlg — the body responsible for organising the 38th edition of the Algarve Academic Week — to take action to bring the reported situation to an end and restore a sense of normality.

Pursuant to Article 55 of the University’s Student Disciplinary Regulations, the Rector has decided to open an investigation to determine whether disciplinary action is warranted against the students involved.

The University of Algarve does not tolerate — and will not condone — any behaviour by students or other members of the academic community that undermines the dignity of individuals, regardless of their ancestry, gender, race, language, place of origin, religion, political or ideological beliefs, level of education, economic situation, social status, or sexual orientation.
