"Dialogues between strings and winds" Concert by the Orquestra do Algarve
The concert is part of the "Music on Campus" Concert Series.
About the concert
The Orquestra do Algarve presents a concert dedicated to chamber music for mixed string and wind ensembles, where the rich timbres and the balance between voices provide every performer with a permanent soloistic spotlight.
John Ireland's sextet reveals an elegant and introspective style, marked by great expressive subtlety. In contrast, Louise Farrenc's Nonet in E-flat major, Op. 38, composed in 1849, is a work of truly symphonic ambition, combining virtuosity, structural density, and refined dialogue between instruments. Rediscovered in the 20th century, this work is recognized today as an essential landmark of 19th-century chamber repertoire.
