In 2025, UAlg will allocate €80,000 to projects that promote the well-being of the academic community: €40,000 for students and €40,000 for teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and researchers.

Who can participate and in which areas?
Undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD students, as well as teaching staff, researchers, and non-teaching staff may submit proposals. Ideas may focus, among other areas, on Sustainable development and the campus environment; Social entrepreneurship and community engagement; Pedagogical dimension and educational innovation; Sport, culture and well-being.

What’s new in this edition?
After two editions structured around the civil calendar, the 3rd edition will now follow the academic calendar, making participation easier and aligning the process with academic activities and proponents’ availability.

Why a Participatory Budget at UAlg?
UAlg regards the PB as a democratic participation mechanism that values opinions and mobilises the academic community. The process brings the University’s management bodies closer to the community, strengthens the sense of belonging, and promotes dialogue, collective mobilisation, and respect for diversity of choices.

The Participatory Budget allows the entire academic community to decide on and implement solutions with a direct impact on their daily lives. This participation translates into tangible improvements in campus life.

UAlg was the first university in Portugal to launch a Participatory Budget process for the entire academic community. Introduced in 2023, this initiative has been consolidated through subsequent editions.

Public information sessions will be held to present the organisation and functioning of OP-UAlg.
