The Centro de Investigação em Artes e Comunicação with the Faculdade de Ciências Humanas e Sociais of the Universidade do Algarve and the Centro de Literaturas e Culturas Lusófonas e Europeias da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa are organizing the International Conference “Europe and the Colonial Empires of the Sixteenth, Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries in Literature and Film”, which will be held on the 20th-21st of October 2016 in the Gambelas Campus (Algarve).

Literature and Film have been working as true time machines. The reappearance of the historical or historically themed novel and the continued popularity of the historical film are evidence of the reader’s and the filmic audience’s interest in these genres, as well as of the huge inspiration that authors and directors find in the historical past. In this sense, this Conference proposes a debate of scientific nature for specialists and whomever might be interested in this theme.
