UAlg recognized globally as a pioneer in its commitment to the SDGs
UAlg submitted information on all 17 SDGs, reinforcing its commitment to global sustainability. Each SDG is evaluated on the basis of specific metrics, which measure the effective impact of institutions in meeting these goals. Although it is possible to participate with data on just a few goals, inclusion in the global ranking requires the submission of at least four SDGs, and participation in SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Implementation of the Goals - is mandatory.
In the 2025 edition, UAlg obtained an overall score of 78.8 out of 100, a reduction of 0.2 compared to 2024 (79.0). The university stood out positively in SDG 2 - Zero Hunger (71.3), ranking 101-200 out of 955 HEIs; SDG 5 - Gender Equality (65.7), ranking 101-200 out of 1559 HEIs; SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy, ranking 201-300 out of 1181 HEIs; SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production (81.4), ranking 101-200 out of 973 HEIs; SDG 14 - Life Below Water (66. 8), ranked 101-200 out of 711 HEIs; SDG 15 - Life on Land (64.9), ranked 101-200 out of 854 HEIs; SDG 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (69.0), ranked 101-200 out of 1265 HEIs; and SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Goals (83.4), ranked 201-300 out of 2389 HEIs, registering the biggest increase this year.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings evaluate institutions based on three main dimensions: research, which contributes knowledge to solving global challenges; institutional management, which must be efficient and sustainable; and direct intervention in society, reflecting the university's real impact on the community.
The presence in this ranking and the results obtained represent a significant achievement for the University of Algarve, which thus sees its leading role in the international context recognized. Once again, UAlg demonstrates its commitment not only to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals through teaching, research and knowledge transfer, but also to integrating these principles into its strategic lines of action.
