Conditions of access
(a) Graduation degree in Marine Biology, Biology or in related scientific fields.
(b) Holders of a foreign higher education degree equivalent to a 1st cycle of studies organized following the Bologna Process by a state adhering to this process.
(c) Holders of a foreign higher education degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the degree of "licenciado" (i.e., bachelor of science).
(d) Holders of an academic, scientific, or professional curriculum attesting to the ability of the candidate to carry out the Master of Sciences in Marine Biology.
(e) English knowledge equivalent to at least a C1 level of proficiency, preferably proven by an institutional certificate or by a duly certified entity;
(f) Graduation grade equal to or greater than 13 out of 20
(g) Grade of the evaluation of the academic path equal to or greater than 13 out of 20
(h) Grade of the evaluation of the Curriculum vitae equal to or greater than 13 out of 20
Note: The acceptance of a candidate based on criteria (d) is the responsibility of the Scientific Council (Conselho Científico) of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology (Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia) of Algarve University. It does not confer to the candidate formal recognition or equivalency to the degree of "licenciado" or any other academic degree.
Criteria for selection of the candidates
1) Academic path
1.1) Suitability of the academic path for being admitted as a candidate
1.2) Average grade of the graduation degree *
1.3) Adequacy and average grades in additional higher studies degrees (e.g., BSc, MSc, postgraduation);
1.4) Classification of the universities that conferred the degree(s) on the “Shanghai ranking of world universities”;
2) Curriculum vitae
2.1) Overall profile
2.2) Professional experience, including scientific articles and communications at conferences*;
2.3) Participation in research projects or internships in the area of study cycle*;
* - This evaluation criterion must be duly proven with a certificate, DOI or copy of the publication.
Necessary documentation
(1) Application form (here) fully completed and submitted together with the remaining documentation;
(2) Curriculum vitae with personal, academic and professional data written in English.
(3) Graduation diploma with final average for any phase of enrollment or academic record with at least 2 complete years (120 ECTS) and certificate of enrollment for final-year students applying in the 2nd phase; all these documents must be officially translated to English if they are in a language other than Portuguese or English.
(4) Transcript of the completed curricular units with the respective grades and credits (ECTS); this document must be officially translated to English if it is written in a language other than Portuguese or English.
(5) Students currently attending a 1st cycle of studies may register conditionally, providing proof of completion of the degree by September 10th, 2026.
(6) Identity proof (ID card or passport).
