UAlg makes its debut in the QS World University Rankings

For the first time, the University of Algarve (UAlg) has been included in the prestigious QS World University Rankings, 2026 edition, drawn up by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). In this debut, UAlg stands out in four international indicators: International Students Diversity (355th position), International Students (388th position), International Research Network (604th position) and Citations per Faculty (604th position), among 1501 institutions evaluated across 106 countries.

The institution is ranked in the 1001–1200 position in the overall ranking, in a particularly competitive edition. This year, 8467 higher education institutions around the world were analyzed, of which only 1501 met the eligibility criteria to be included in the final ranking — 112 more than in the previous edition. Among the nine Portuguese institutions present, the University of Algarve is the only new entrant in the international ranking.

The 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings is based on a comprehensive assessment, focusing on multiple dimensions of academic and institutional performance. Among the criteria considered are research, assessed by quality, volume and academic reputation; the employability of graduates, assessed on the basis of student preparation, links with the business sector and reputation with employers; the teaching environment, which analyses the resources and conditions supporting students' academic career; internationalization, which covers the diversity of teachers and students, as well as participation in global scientific collaboration networks; and sustainability, which reflects the degree of commitment of institutions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
