UAlg had 94 of the 100 criteria set by FISU validated in the areas of healthy campus management, physical activity and sport, nutrition, disease prevention, mental and social health, risk behaviours, environment, sustainability and social responsibility.

During the audit visit, with the aim of verifying the update of the Platinum level certificate, auditors Catarina Sampaio (U. Porto Sports Centre) and Gabriel Oliveira (Sports and Culture Department of U. Minho), met with the Rector of UAlg, Paulo Águas, and various members of the UAlg + Sustainable and Healthy Council and the UAlg team  involved in the survey of good practices carried out at UAlg, Alexandra Teodósio (Vice-Rector), Eduardo Esteves (Pro-Rector), Nuno Rodrigues (AAUAlg Sports Office), Vanda Correia (ESEC), Adelaide Paiva (ESS), Luís Nunes (FCT UAlg), Maria Palma Mateus (ESS), Paula Mucharrinha (SAS Food Department), Jorge Malveiro and Kátia Tavares (SS SAS). They also had the opportunity to visit the Gambelas and Penha campuses.

"Achieving and maintaining the platinum level of this certification was and is only possible thanks to the efforts of all those who make up the UAlg + Sustainable and Healthy Council, as well as the services and offices of UAlg, in developing initiatives and activities that constitute good practice in the various areas of the Healthy Campus. The FISU Healthy Campus programme is part of our strategic plan and dovetails perfectly with other UAlg institutional programmes and projects," says Eduardo Esteves, Pro-Rector of UAlg.

In 2020, the Healthy Campus World Certification programme had 93 universities from more than 31 countries. It has now spread to all continents and covers more than 140 higher education institutions.

FISU Healthy Campus is an initiative that aims to improve the general well-being of students and the academic community in general. FISU's aim with this project is to establish an interdisciplinary system dedicated to wellbeing, a healthy lifestyle and raising student awareness of these issues. The project also seeks to share knowledge and good practices at a local and global level, influencing other areas related to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. The programme also focuses on criteria such as gender equality, reducing inequalities, increasing inclusion, sustainable community development, climate action, partnerships and synergies, among many others.
