Overview
The Postgraduate Programme in Digital and Environmental Technologies in Agricultural Sciences, an innovative initiative proposed by the +AgroDigTech@Sul consortium—comprising the University of Évora, the University of Algarve, NOVA University Lisbon, the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, and the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre—aims to train professionals equipped to address the contemporary challenges facing the sector. The programme combines advanced knowledge in digital technologies with sustainable production practices and environmental management, promoting more efficient and responsible agriculture. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to explore the latest technological innovations applied to the agricultural sector, learning how to use them to optimise processes, increase productivity, and reduce environmental impacts. In addition, the curriculum emphasises the importance of sustainability, preparing professionals to implement practices that preserve natural resources and enhance the resilience of agricultural ecosystems. This multidisciplinary, innovation- and technology-oriented training promotes an integrated approach that is essential for more efficient, more resilient, and environmentally responsible agriculture.

Operating Mode

The course will begin on 2 March 2026 and will end on 29 January 2027.

Planned schedule:  Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 18:00 to 20:00, and Saturdays from 09:00 to 17:00.

General Objective

To equip professionals in Agricultural Sciences and related fields with technical, digital, and environmental competencies that enable them to plan, implement, and evaluate sustainable technological solutions applied to agricultural production systems and environmental management.

Specific Objectives

By the end of the programme, graduates should be able to:

  • Understand and apply digital technologies in the agricultural context, namely remote sensing, geotechnologies, IoT, and data analysis, to support decision-making and optimise production systems;
  • Acquire competencies in precision agriculture, crop monitoring, and data-driven management, with a view to increasing production efficiency and reducing environmental impacts;
  • Integrate principles of sustainability into the management of agricultural production factors, promoting the efficient use of natural resources, particularly soil, water, and nutrients;
  • Assess and implement agricultural waste management strategies within a circular economy framework and in line with environmental sustainability principles;
  • Interpret and apply public policies and environmental legislation relevant to the agricultural sector, ensuring regulatory compliance of agricultural practices;
  • Develop a critical and integrated perspective on the challenges of the digital and ecological transition in agriculture, articulating technology, environment, and the socio-economic context;
  • Build personalised learning pathways through the selection of optional curricular units, tailored to the professional needs and areas of specialisation of each student.
