The PhD in Clinical Research and Translational Medicine aims to provide an interdisciplinary, methodologically detailed training that enables students to understand the scientific, ethical and regulatory issues associated with Clinical Research.

It is also the objective of this PhD to provide students with the skills to enable them to carry out clinical research in conjunction with care practice, while promoting the transmission of knowledge from the basic sciences to the clinical area, in a constant improvement of the clinical care provided.

The programme aims to contribute to placing Portugal in the sphere of benchmark countries in the development of clinical studies. In a global sense, through the increase of clinical research, and, strictly, through the health professionals who participate in it.

It also intends to contribute to the development of the Algarve, more specifically with regard to the specialisation of health professionals, also starting to endow the region with a scientific offer of proximity and high quality.

At the same time, this PhD helps to promote liaison between professionals specialised in basic areas and professionals in clinical areas, in joint research projects, in the field of Translational Medicine.

Applications for this PhD can be accepted from: holders of a master's degree in the field of health sciences; holders of a master's or bachelor’s degree, with a particularly relevant academic or scientific curriculum, which is recognised by the scientific committee as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies.

For the Scientific Council of this PhD, composed of Ana Moita de Macedo, Isabel Palmeirim and Pedro Castelo Branco, professors of the Faculty of Medicine of UAlg, this accreditation is the recognition of a path marked by quality and innovation in the teaching-learning area of medicine and health sciences.”
