University of Algarve offers Portuguese course for Ukrainian refugees
The University of Algarve will teach a free intensive Portuguese course for Ukrainian refugees. Registration is already underway.
This course, equivalent to the survival level, aims to offer very basic notions of Portuguese language, allowing the recipients to communicate and integrate into the community as quickly as possible. The aim is to develop basic day-to-day oral communication and to create a network that covers as many locations as possible, avoiding the need to travel and enabling work with small groups.
The course consists of a 12-hour module and will be taught twice a week in two-hour sessions.
Language teachers from UAlg and other institutions who show availability and teachers from other scientific areas, senior technicians, students and alumni can collaborate in this course. These volunteers will accompany a language teacher during the period of the course and, afterwards, they will be invited to continue this project, replicating the model with other volunteers who join it.
The initiative is coordinated by the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism (ESGHT), the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCHS) and the School of Education and Communication (ESEC), in collaboration with the UAlg V+ Volunteering Group.
