Style Book
Do you want to communicate? Follow the rules.
When preparing a news story, it is essential to comply with fundamental journalistic principles to guarantee clarity, objectivity and relevance. Those wishing to submit a news proposal to the University of Algarve (UAlg) Communications Office should ensure that the text concisely presents the basic information — who, what, when, where, how and why — in the opening paragraphs. The proposal should contain an attention-grabbing title, a lead that summarises the essence of the news, and a well-structured body of text written in accessible language with a focus on institutional and/or public interest.
To improve the journalistic style of your proposal, we recommend consulting the Lusa Agency Stylebook, which provides useful guidelines on language, structure, and newsworthiness criteria. Where possible, quality images and statements from officials or participants should be included to enhance the content and facilitate the eventual development of the journalistic piece by the Communications Office.
