João Albino Silva is also president of the Scientific Council, director of the Doctoral Programme in Tourism, and researcher at the Centre for Research in Tourism, Sustainability and Well-Being. He was president of the National Tourism Observatory, general coordinator of the Research and Innovation Agenda for Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality promoted by the FCT, scientific advisor to the General Directorate of Tourism of Portugal and CCDR-Algarve, and president of the National Commissions to evaluate the tourism courses taught at Portuguese universities. He represents the University of the Algarve at the Smart Tourism Forum, is the scientific coordinator of the Observatory of Sustainable Tourism in the Algarve Region and a member of the "Order of Economists".
The 2020 Career Award Jury unanimously decided to award this distinction to Professor João Albino Silva taking into account “his distinguished career dedicated to serving the public cause”.
The public ceremony took place on 9 December. With limited numbers allowed to attend in person, it was transmitted virtually from the auditorium of the Faculty of Economics, on the Gambelas Campus of the University of Algarve.

The University of the Algarve welcomes the awarding of the Career Award 2020, promoted by the Order of Economists - Regional Delegation of the Algarve, to João Albino Silva, Full Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve.
