The University of the Algarve is marking the opening of the Academic Year 2024/25 with the concert ‘The Knight in the Mirror’, performed by the Algarve Orchestra and directed by Pedro Amaral. The concert will start at 9pm on 21 September in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Grand Auditorium on the Gambelas Campus.
Admission is free, but subject to capacity.
About the concert
‘At the age of just fifteen, Franz Schubert undertook the writing of an opera in three acts on a libretto by August von Kotzebue, entitled ‘The Knight in the Mirror’. The initiative, like many other projects by the young Schubert, remained on the back burner and was never completed. Two years later, he was writing a brilliant and promising symphony, which was only heard long after its author's death. Both scores will feature in this concert, which will also include ‘A Canção da Urze’ by Eurico Carrapatoso.’
