Best Global Universities Rankings of the U.S News & World Report

Ranking analyzes 13 indicators to classify 2.250 higher education institutions from 105 countries.

The latest edition of the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings was developed to provide insight into how universities compare globally.

The Best Global Universities overall ranking encompasses 2.250 top institutions across 105 countries, 16 of which are Portuguese higher education institutions (15 included in the ranking and 1 that did not meet the requirements to be ranked). The first step in producing these rankings, which are powered by Clarivate™, involved creating a pool of 2.346 HEIs that was used to rank the top 2.250 schools.

This ranking is calculated using the 13 indicators and respective weights selected by U.S. News to measure overall research performance. Each school profile page on usnews.com lists the overall score as well as numerical rankings for the 13 indicators, allowing students to compare each school's position on each indicator. The indicators and their weightings in the ranking formula are listed in the table below:

In this ranking’s most recent edition, the first in which UAlg has participated by providing data on all indicators considered, UAlg stands out in the “Percentage of Publications in International Collaboration” as well as in the “Percentage of Publications in International Collaboration relative to the country,” occupying 183rd and 301st positions respectively, which is the best classification at the national level in both.

Among the select group of 2,250 higher education institutions worldwide, it ranks 1459th globally, tied with others, and 10th nationally. This university ranking analyzed the 13 indicators mentioned above to classify higher education institutions, emphasizing criteria related to research, scientific publications, and national and international reputation. The published results confirm the University of Algarve's strong performance in various university rankings, consistently placing it among the best universities in the world.
