Internationalization

The University of Algarve (UAlg) is located in Faro, the capital of the Algarve, in the south of Portugal, in a region with a Mediterranean climate, popular with thousands of tourists. Its privileged location next to Faro International Airport and the many new air routes linking it to the main Portuguese cities (Oporto and Lisbon), Europe and the world, as well as the excellent conditions it offers, together with the region, mean that this university is increasingly acquiring a central and international status, visible on the streets of the city of Faro, which welcomes around 2,000 international students from more than 101 nationalities every year.

More recently, it has become part of the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU), a 'super campus' that aims to create a distinctly international, multiethnic, multilingual and interdisciplinary European university, made up of nine universities: Cadiz (Spain), Bretagne (France), Kiel (Germany), Gdansk (Poland), Split (Croatia), Malta (Malta), Naples Parthenope (Italy), Algarve (Portugal) and Nord (Norway).

World university rankings

Founded in 1979, UAlg appears for the seventh time in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings, which analyses the performance of higher education institutions founded 50 years ago or less, once again leading the indicator that assesses the international projection of Portuguese higher education institutions.

In the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2023, it is included in the list of the best in the world, once again standing out in the Hospitality & Tourism Management field, in places 76-100.

It was also included for the fifth time in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which assesses the performance and contribution of universities to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a global level, ranking 301-400 out of 1963 higher education institutions (HEIs) from 125 countries.
