Organised as part of the KA220 Erasmus+ RESUPERES: Resilience in Education project, funded by the European Union, this congress aims to promote a holistic and multifaceted approach to education that integrates the value of supporting students not only academically, but also in terms of their personal, social, emotional, motivational and mental health well-being.

The first day of the congress will begin with the presentation of the project, followed by plenary lectures by RUI VIEIRA NERY, university professor and musicologist, who will talk about Fado's candidature for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, for which he was chairman of the scientific committee; JOAQUIM DE AZEVEDO, a lecturer at the Catholic University of Porto, who runs the highly relevant socio-educational project Arco Maior, aimed at marginalised young people who drop out of school; and BORIS CYRULNIK, a neuropsychiatrist known in France for developing and explaining to the public the concept of Psychological Resilience, who will address this topic in his lecture.

On the second day, as well as presenting the results of the RESUPERES project, there will also be a panel discussion on Resilience in Higher Education, with the participation of representatives from the various institutions collaborating on the project (University of Algarve, University of Granada, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Universitá degli Studi Suor Orsola Benincasa, University of Belgrade).

In the words of Carolina Sousa, UAlg lecturer and chair of the congress, ‘according to recent studies, higher education can be a time of particular vulnerability for both students and teachers, which is why this scientific event aims to present, debate, publicise and promote the importance of developing Resilience, extending to all levels of education beyond the university’.

About the RESUPERES Project

The RESUPERES: Resilience in Education project was created with the aim of creating an intervention programme and tools in the context of higher education to improve and develop resilience constructs such as coping, self-concept, self-esteem, leadership, teamwork/networking, etc, based on skills in the areas of physical activity, the digital world and communication, the performing and visual arts and culture, which generate resilient behaviour patterns, areas considered to be priorities in the development of this construct, and which can be extrapolated to the different stages of teacher and student training.
