João Silva is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) since 2006 and his main area of expertise is marine plant ecology and ecophysiology. The main focus of his recent research has been on the ecological and physiological impacts of climate change on seagrasses and marine macroalgae. He has coordinated or participated in more than 50 national and EU-funded research projects, contracts and grants and authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications (h-index=32, Google Scholar), most of them in collaboration with international partners. Acts regularly as a reviewer and editor of manuscripts for several journals and has participated in 28 academic juris (PhD and MsC). JS has supervised 1 Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellow, 2 post-docs, 6 PhDs, 16 masters students and over 25 undergraduate internships/bachelor thesis. He is currently a member of the Euromarine Steering Committee and an Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Algarve University. Has an active role in science dissemination, through educational talks, media collaborations, involvement with NGOs and other activities aimed at generating awareness for the need to value and preserve the ecosystem services provided by marine macrophytes, particularly in the challenging context of climate change.
