Inês Araújo (1978, Coimbra, Portugal) has a PhD in Cell Biology (2005) from the University of Coimbra; IAraújo is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Algarve, and a researcher at the Algarve Biomedical Center Research Institute (ABC-RI), where she acts as co-director and leads the Neurogenesis Lab. Since 2021, Inês is a researcher of the Champalimaud Research Program, under the scope of the Algarve Biomedical Center partnership. IAraújo has devoted her research interests to understanding the neurogenic process and the formation of new neurons in the diseased brain or after brain injury. IAraújo participated in over 20 scientific research projects, 10 of them as principal investigator; she directed 7 doctoral theses (plus 2 ongoing), 5 master theses and supervised 3 PhD researchers. She is the author of 46 peer-reviewed scientific publications; a reviewer of scientific journals in the area of Neurosciences; has participated in the organization of several scientific meetings; is a member of the Portuguese Society of Neurosciences and the Portuguese Society of Stem Cells and Cell Therapy; was distinguished with the Research Stimuli by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2004), with the L'Óreal Medal of Honor for Women in Science (2005), Young Investigator of the Network of European Neuroscience Institutes (ENI-NET) (since 2008) and more recently a member of the team awarded with the Melo e Castro award (2019). IAraújo regularly participates in science dissemination activities, including two funded projects for the production of multimedia content for outreach regarding stem cells and the brain.
