Dina Costa Simes. Completed the PhD in Chemistry in 2003, University of Algarve, Master in Cellular Chemistry in 1997 by University of Algarve, Faculty of Sciences and Technologies and Degree in Technological Chemistry in 1990 by University of Lisbon, Faculty of Sciences. Is Assistant Professor in University of Algarve since 2003 and CEO in GenoGla Diagnostics since 2010. Published 51 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. Has 1 book chapter and 1 patent pending. Supervised 3 PhD thesis, 9 MSc dissertations and 36 LSc/BSc students and trainees. Has received 9 awards. Principal Investigator in 6 projects, Researcher in 17 projects and Supervisor in 3 projects. Research main activity on vitamin K dependent proteins associated with mineralization (cardiovascular, skin and cartilage) as potential biomarkers for ectopic calcification and chronic inflammatory-related diseases as cardiovascular disease (CVD) and osteoarthritis (OA). In vitro and ex vivo human cell culture systems developed as models for diseases functional studies and clinical translation. ELISAs for application in clinical diagnostics. Clinical studies for validation of biomarkers with diagnostics/ prognosis utility. Marine bioactive molecules with potential application in the biomedical field.
