Aquaculture in AA is a leading maritime activity which shares common challenges in each country as effective environmental management, north-south divide, regulatory barriers, long licensing processes, lack of knowledge and acceptance from consumers (social license) and space conflict with other maritime users. Therefore, it is foreseen that through strong transnational cooperation, these challenges will be overcome increasing competiveness and greener development of aquaculture. INTEGRATE’s concept is rooted in the assumption that a green economy model will be followed in order to use existing natural resources in a sustainable manner. As such, project is focused on Priority Axis 2 and specific objective 2.2 and it is built on specific opportunities of the regions involved through smart specialization strategies (RIS3): blue growth and green growth. It is also aligned with the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy and the Atlantic Action Plan in which improvement of green growth, productivity, competitiveness and environmental sustainability plays a major role. Project aims to tackle aquaculture challenges in AA through collective and transnational efforts, multi-level approach and involving relevant governance schemes and types of organizations helping to improve effectiveness of territorial solutions. A diverse range of stakeholders will be targeted to enhance sustainability, bringing new market opportunities and position AA aquaculture as an international benchmark.
